Federal government increase to migration cap welcomed in Ballarat
Regional leaders have welcomed the federal government's increase to the permanent migration cap to help businesses fill crippling labour shortages.
Australian Home Affairs Minister Clare O'Neil announced a 35,000 increase in the permanent migration cap from 160,000 to 195,000 this financial year during the Jobs and Skills Summit on Friday.
Regional Australia will have access to 34,000 permanent migrants, an increase of 9,000.
Community, business and local government leaders in Ballarat say they are working hard to be on the "front foot" so the city can maximise its benefits.
