WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NET PROFIT AND RETAINED EARNINGS?

Image
Hi there, I have not worked in the accounting department ever before, so when I was asked to help the bookkeeper with his workload, I was apprehensive. It took me some time to adjust to the new environment, but I am good with numbers and calculations so did well. The best part is that I loved the work and learnt a lot over the past few months. The most recent learning has been the difference between net profit and retained earnings. I thought that they were same, but they are quite different. RE is calculated by deducted dividends from the net profit. To understand this in detail, do read the article shared below. https://www.agibookkeeping.com.au/what-is-the-difference-between-net-profit-and-retained-earnings/

'Chasm' between weak consumers and booming businesses widens. How and when will it close?

Australian households are feeling "deeply pessimistic", but they are still spending money and business confidence keeps booming. Economists say it is hard to ignore how differently households are feeling about economic conditions compared to businesses. The latest NAB monthly business survey shows business confidence has picked up again, with businesses' perceptions of conditions remaining well above their long-term average. Skyportz lays groundwork for a national vertiport network to host a 'green' transport revolution

Image
With the rise of passenger drones gaining momentum globally as some of the biggest aviation companies join start-ups to create the first commercially viable electlric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicle, an Australian company has been working behind the scenes to lay the groundwork for a network of ‘vertiports’ to accommodate what is expected to be a personal transport revolution. Skyportz, a company founded and led by Clem Newton-Brown, earlier this month revealed the design for the first vertiport in Australia to service the emerging electric air taxi industry, identifying Caribbean Park, an office precinct located in Melbourne’s east, as one of the frontrunners in the new race to conquer the skies. The 'Muslim mum' is the target of Aussie exporters going vegan, organic and halal

Image
The Muslim mum: That's the core demographic that many Australian businesses are targeting as they pivot away from purely focusing on China, towards exporting a new breed of halal-certified products to South-East Asia and the Middle East. Two years ago, when the pandemic hit and Betul Turker lost her job, she realised that was the demographic that was untapped in her local area. She set up a health food store in the fast-growing and culturally diverse community of Coolaroo, in Melbourne's north. Here, more than 30 per cent of the population identify as Muslim. Ballarat business joins Supreme Court class action against Victorian government

Image
A Ballarat business owner has joined a class action compensation claim against the Victorian government over its alleged mismanagement of the state's hotel quarantine program.  Victoria's Supreme Court ruled last week the class action would proceed, after two attempts to quash it. More than 1,300 business have registered to seek compensation, believing the escape of coronavirus from hotel quarantine led to Victoria's second lockdown from July 2, 2020. Ballarat children's play centre Chipmunks owner Varneet Singh said lockdown periods throughout the coronavirus pandemic had almost sent him bankrupt and set back business goals.
